Introduction

Michael Batell classical guitars are concert instruments designed for the demands of professional performing and recording guitarists, students at conservatory level, and serious amateurs and collectors. They are constructed according to a considered integration of traditional aesthetics and design with modern and often innovative methods and techniques. My guitars have always been constructed in the traditional Spanish method, with tonality and aesthetics influenced by the greatest guitar makers of Spain - Manuel Ramirez, Santos Hernandez, Antonio de Torres, and many more.

This instrument, constructed in the Spanish tradition with the exception of the double-top soundboard construction, is my own design, developed during the course of my career, approximately comparable to a Santos Hernandez in size. Its response is effortless, with exceptional power, clarity, and ease of playing. (The video below shows this instrument reversed for a left handed client of mine to try prior to a commission. Osnabrueck Guitarfest 2026 - Germany

I am looking forward to this first year festival at Osnabrueck Univeristy, organized by Stefan Koim who will play a concert 3 weeks earlier at my atelier in Berlin on Sunday 11 Oct. The festival includes a great concert and masterclass list by various world class musicians, most of whom I know well already. As one of 3 luthiers participating in the expo portion of the festival, I will have some very interesting guitars to try out - for anyone interested, just find me at the festival and we'll find a time and place to try out an instrument or two. I hope to see many of you there.
